Baroness Verma, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, visited the British Gas Smart Centre and Training Academy in Leeds to meet engineers who'll be training in advance of the trial of smart meters with 'pay as you go' functionality. Deputy PM Meets Young People Working with British Gas

The Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, meets the first apprentices to be employed by British Gas at its contact centre in Cardiff, following the success of a new work placement programme targeted at young people not in education, employment or training (NEETs). The 10 Customer Service apprentices, aged 18-24, are part of a group of young people from south east Wales who were chosen to join a new collaborative pre-employment training programme.

Secretary of State for Business visits Scottish Gas Academy

The Secretary of State for Business, Vince Cable MP, visited Scottish Gas’ Training Academy in Hamilton to meet the company’s newest apprentices. Around 100 apprentices are being trained at the Scottish Gas Academy this year. Seventy of the group are being trained as “Smart Energy Experts” at our Academy to support a UK Government programme which will see smart meters installed as standard in homes and businesses across Britain.
